Artist's Description
This is an imaginary wave not based on any photograph. This is what it might look like, from the water angle, to see a surfer riding a 100-foot barreling wave. This would be possible at the Cortes Bank, which has no height limit. Laird Hamilton or Brett Lickle claimed to have ridden a wave "better than ten stories" which means a wave over 100 feet tall, at "Egypt" on the north shore of Maui on 12-3-2007. That would be the biggest wave ever surfed. It was not photographed and therefore not officially recognized. That day Brett Lickle was nearly killed when he and Laird were overtaken by a wave moving faster than their jet skis at 55 mph, and Brett's leg was badly lacerated. This is according to the book "Ghost Wave" by Chris Dixon.

The Mike Parsons wave painting is based on the original photograph by Robert Brown but with a unique view of the trough. There IS NO photograph of Ken Bradshaw's biggest wave. Hank's famous photo featured on Ken Bradshaw's web site was a smaller 65-footer Ken rode later the same day. Greg Noll's wave is mythical, with the scale based on Larry...
