This is a water-angle shot of the first surfer to paddle into big Cortes Bank on 1-19-2001. He wiped out violently, but was rescued. Good thing, since he was the skipper of the boat. His board was never found. Great effort by Jon Walla on a wave over 40 foot. This was the day Mike Parsons was towed into and rode an official 66-footer for a long distance, as seen at the end of the movie "Step Into Liquid".
